Freshest News: Akatuski no Yona PV
Check out the the PV for the upcoming, "Akatsuki no Yona". The anime is scheduled for an October premiere. From ANN.
And since this is my 1001st post, did you know that there is a reverse harem in the classic One Thousand and One Nights or Arabian Nights? The story is entitled, "The Three Princes and the Princess Nouronnihar". It's about three brothers who are in a quest to find a wonderful object that will win them the princess' hand in marriage. I only stumbled upon this while helping out my son for his school project. Check out the story here.
P.S.
You can also purchase the reverse harem novels I have reviewed via the Amazon links below the popular posts. I'll truly appreciate it! I will add more as soon as I get to read and finish the books from my ever-growing readlist.

Polls: Kamigami no Asobi couple
And the votes had been casted. The winning pick for Yui Kasunagi is...the Light and Sun God, Apollon Agana Belea! I've observed that leader-type or the main lead guys, no matter what personality, always win in the polls well except for Heart no Kuni and Hanayaka Nari. Thanks for all the 753 humans who voted! And thanks for giving me the opportunity to come across Takeru's swimming outfit whilst looking for photos. I wasn't into him yet when that episode aired. Now I just can't look at it without blushing! These type of posts are also opportunities for me to see their happy endings in the otome and man Thoth's and Takeru's endings got me swooning! Manga Review: Ai Kiss Idol Kiss
Ai Kiss Idol Kiss by Haruko Kurumatani 1 volume-complete
Hina has been a long-time fan of the idol group, Kiss and when she finally gets the chance to watch their concert for the very first time, she finds herself as their "domestic animal".
The premise and the start of the story has the word "smutty" smeared all over it and later on I found out it was by Haruko Kurumatani of "Bishounen Oheya" and "Akutou Danshi Collection". Smutty mangas alert! I braced myself for lewd situations but instead I was surprised with the wholesome sweetness. The unexpected thing he did at Chapter 3 really gave my heart a lot of doki-dokis. We still have to wait for the last chapter though.
And of course, I know you wouldn't miss the similarities with the Sunako from "The Wallflower" and Hana of "Crash!!". It also makes me wonder what would happen if we throw any of these three nosebleeding girls in the hands of the Sakamaki brothers of Diabolik Lovers.

Poll: How old are you?
Wow! I didn't expect a high turnaround of votes. 868 votes! This poll beat Starry Sky's 837 votes and came in second after Brothers Conflict's 900 votes. And what's more surprising is that 67% of you peeps are all 18 and below! So if you see the tags smut and new adult or if there's a warning or disclaimer from me, please, please don't click it until you're old enough to drive, to get drunk, get married and have babies! I feel like I now have a moral responsibility for all you young people. And if I ever catch you, 'Oy! You'll all be grounded'. (You have to read The Ghost Bird series to get this reference. Or wait it's about to become new adult now...) It's also reassuring that there's at least one percent of you lot scattered around the globe who's still a fan of reverse harem just like me. Haha! Thanks again for joining. Now my curiosity had been satisfied and I have an idea now on where to take this blog. Here's the breakdown:
12 years old and below- 54 votes (6%)
13-18 years old- 531 votes (61%)
19-23 years old- 201 votes (23%)
24-30 years old- 52 votes (5%)
31-40 years old- 15 votes (1%)
41-50 years old- 7 votes (0%)
over 50 years old- 8 votes (0%)
The picture above is from the new drama, Plus Nine Boys. Nope, not a reverse harem but it's like a new take of the flower boy concept. It's about flower boys/men with ages ending in nines: 9, 19, 29 and 39 years old.

Bishonens and Flower Boys
I've promised I'll be prioritizing animes so weeks ago I've finally watched the touted otome mobile game turned anime, Sengoku Paradise Kiwami. For the longest time, I thought it was a reverse harem anime but turns out the "heroine" is actually a feminine-looking boy. Yup, bishonen anime! There's a lone woman but she's more in a supporting role and they're not into her.
Meanwhile in dramas, there's been also a lot flower boy concept ever since Boy Before Flowers. TVN is heavily capitalizing on it as well. They had an Oh Boy Series trilogy and other dramas that have a bevy of pretty men.
Bishonen animes and flower boy dramas have been out there for a long time but I have come to this theory that reverse harem may have also helped in making producers realize that there is a large market for girls hankering for pretty boys.

But sadly I haven't really watched bishonen and flower boys with my hands already full with reverse harem. But tell me what are your favorite shows? I'm not expert on this topic but I feel like this deserves a special mention since bishonen, flower boys and reverse harem are like cousins on the mother side while on the father side we've got the harem.

Book Review: Spearwood Academy Volume 2
Spearwood Academy Volume 2 Episodes 6-10 by A. S. Oren
Avalon gets through her first test in Spearwood Academy with flying colors...in gold scales to be exact. She's learning a lot of new things about herself, the boys, the school, the shapeshifters and that everybody is not what they appear to be. But there's still a lot of questions unanswered and more questions are being unraveled as the academy seems to have bigger plans for her. Warning! Spoilers ahead.
This was given for free in exchange for a review. I am new to the episode approach to a book. I think this approach is feasible for the author especially since she self-publishes her work. Another advantage is that the writer can play by ear and make changes depending on whose characters are popular. One drawback though is that it's been a while since I first read the novel and I have to reread it from the start. I hate to admit it that I've already forgotten which is which and I need to reread it form the start to jog my memory. It works in mangas because it's visual. Also another issue that I've come to realize with mangas versus books is that it's hard to track the keep track of the boys in text-only literature like Brothers Conflict novel and other reverse harem novels. I have to keep looking back at the picture or character sheetlist for reference.
But turns out rereading the book was a great excuse. Reading it nonstop from volume one to two was one enjoyable ride! The inner circle has gotten bigger, yes more boys in her harem. I'm still curious why they suddenly banded together as it was not answered yet. In the second volume, we get to know more of the boys and their personalities. But believe me it's far from over as there are still new boys making appearances on the second volume. I'm enjoying the nuances of their personalities translating to how they speak or relate to each other. Like Mirren, he said that he doesn't like her version now. Does that mean he currently "likes" her if she's back in her old self? The development of Dante's and Paden's characters has also sparked my interest to them. They're not superficial as I thought they were. Okay, in the last volume it was Kearn and Mirren who captured my attention, now it's Dante and Paden. I still like Mirren though but my interest to Kearn had faded. Who knows by the next volume it might change again. I'm sorry I'm so fickle. But one thing's for sure all their names now are etched at the back of my head.

Finding similarities to mangas and dramas are like Easter eggs. There are pheromones from manga, makeovers straight from drama, butlers and I realized just now that the doctor reminds me of Hana Kimi. I feel like Domyouji was split into two. Mirren got his warfreak side, while The Royal got his spoiled side. Dante also reminds me of Tamaki of Ouran. He's clingy but the mother type instead of the father type. But Spearwood Academy has its own quirks and charms without looking a rip-off. It's more of paying tribute to reverse harem.
The reason Harry Potter is endearing to me is that you could read it again an again and still get amazed like its always your first time reading it. Rereadability is one of the greatest factors of a classic. Trust me I don't have the patience to reread or rewatch stuff. I'm always on the hunt for the next title. But this re-reading exercise just proved to that Spearwood Academy is also one of those books I would want to read over and over again. I could get lost in this world. There are a lot of small details that you could easily forget and discovering it again is part of the adventure.
And now it's time for my miscellaneous musings! (It sounds like a hashtag topic lol)
1. I think their secret place is too far away. The traveling eats much time in the story.
2. I find the revelation between Avvi and Amr lacking but I didn't see that one coming.
3. I'm also curious of what the other boys were thinking when they saw her in their birthday suit and the effect of the pheromones to Kearn and the Padens. By the way, there's going to be a spin-off which is, Spearwood Boys. I hope it includes that!
There are so many burning questions. What are the marks for? What is the alliance? I still prefer a finished, complete book, being the impatient person that I am. But she's really good in ending the volumes in a bang that makes you look forward for the next one. By the way there is an option to either buy it by episodes or to wait for the volume. Oren has a new upcoming book, The Splicing Project. I saw her tweeting this as Hunger Games meet Divergent, Reverse Harem and as well as Erotic Adventures and Adultreads. So if you're a tween and teenager, you know what that means 'kay?

Anime Movie Review: Hakuōki Dai-isshō Kyoto Ranbu
Hakuōki Dai-isshō Kyoto Ranbu (Hakuouki: Chapter 1 Kyoto Boisterous Dance)
This is the first installment of the two-part movie. I think this was made to entice people who haven't seen the TV series and also to provide a cinematic experience for the loyal fans. It feels the same and different all at the same time. Just imagine a different person narrating the same story. Of course, the animation was all probably done from scratch so it doesn't look recycled. The scenarios are different from what I remembered but the gist is there. And to quote my previous co-worker, it's basically the same bananas.
I could say it's still painfully beautiful. The animation. The scoring. The doomed bishonens. There's still a part of me hoping that in this version, they will all live happily ever after. Of course we all know that it won't happen. I can't hardly wait to watch this movie but now that I've seen it this I'm now dreading the second part. We will have to relive all the sad parts all over again. I've read somewhere before that the movie will have a slightly different ending. Hmmm how about a happier ending?
But to my surprise I'm now rooting for Hijikata. I was shipping Chizuri before with either Saito or Okita. I was also taken off guard with Okita's voice. I don't seem to recall him having that kind of voice but don't mind me since seiyuus are not my forte. I don't have the ears for it. And in a totally unrelated trivia, while watching the second season of Saiunkoku Monogatari (six years ago), my young son walks in and without looking he casually tells me that it's the same voice actor of Viral of Tenggen Toppa Gurren Lagan. He was referring to Ri Kouyuu. I googled and my jaw literally dropped! He was right! Just imagine the possibilities if I have that kind of talent and I could critique the seiyuus and cross reference their previous works.

Polls: La Corda D' Oro 3 Blue Sky Couple
And the winner for who should Kanade Kohinata choose is....Kyouya Kisaragi! Hmmm...so many K's. Aside from the reality show, what other word that comes into my mind? Kiss!!! It's too bad that the romance was downplayed in the anime. That would have probably saved the series. But if you're looking for romance don't forget that this is based on an otome. What I noticed in the opening of the anime though is that they manage to make you think that there's something special going on with her and Kyouya. It's the same too with Leiji, but it's more of like hostility that might turn into love.
The top three winners came from different schools so there's no single school that dominated the poll. However there was a low turnout of votes which is not surprising. There were only 250 votes compared to Kamigami no Asobi's 753 votes. Thanks again for those who joined!
