Kdrama Review: Reply 1994

Reply 1994 - 21 episodes

The drama is set in 1994. It's about the lives of 7 college students from different provinces who lived in a boarding house in Seoul. Among the male boarders, is Sung Na Jung's husband in the present time. The story will teases you with hints as it moved back and forth from the past to the present. 

This is the drama that I equally love and hate. I didn't know it was even possible. I give it a perfect 10 for direction, acting, and set/props. But the ending left me all heartbroken. She didn't end up with the guy I loved! But I've moved on now so I can finally post this without anger.

I enjoyed the overall themes and that's coming from someone with zero knowledge of Korean history, geography and Reply 1997. I love how they interweave the past events, pop culture and regional differences in the story. The drama was nostalgic for me too as I am part of the Generation X. 10 years ago I was in 6th grade. Do the math, yes, I'm old! The last lines hit the spot that I'm part of a generation that both enjoyed the analog and digital technologies. The most glaring example is how technology plays a big part in the drama. You'll see how it evolved from pagers, payphones, cellphones and smartphones. It feels like you also traveled in time with them. You'll also feel the ups and downs of the journey of all the characters as they all shine. It's quite an entertaining ride with a good mix of comedy and drama. 

Is it just me but have you noticed when the story reaches a critical point with the love interest the story afterwards just goes on a downhill or tedious. And it never goes back to that point again. Take for example: Sungkyunwkan Scandal and  You're Beautiful. I'm such a love junkie. 

You'll enjoy this one but it comes with a great risk. Depending of who you'll be rooting for, you'll either love it or hate it. I got the bitter end of the deal.

Megane Apato (Glasses Apartment) by An Tsukumiya

Haruse was requested by her grandfather to be the landlady of the Haruse Apartment or better know as the Glasses Apartment due to the glasses-wearing tenants. I'm not really into the glasses-type even though I wear glasses. But there's more to the story than meets the eye which I find very cute. It looks like a oneshot manga but I'm not really sure.

The US version of Boys Before Friends has changed their lead heroine for the third time and the lead guy as well on the fifth episode. From Official FB. They're also on crowdfunding for their 7th to 16th episodes.


Masaaki Tsukada who voiced the chairman of Yumeiro Patissierie passed away due to an illness last Jan. 27. He was 74 years old. His works includes Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto in Bleach, Toto in One Piece, Kobayashi-cha in Prince Mackaroo, Kiichirō Kimiyoshi in Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai, General Grumman in Fullmetal Alchemist, Yutaka in Hoka Hoka Kazoku, Wang in The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Gorō Tashiro in Showa Monogatari and a lot more. Whoa! Reverse Harem Garden just hit 700,000. Okay, I know other blogs get a million hits every month. But for the first time the blog received 100,000 hits in six months compared to the usual one year. That's a big leap right? Otome game, Norn9, will be animated. More info from ANN.

In the game, the player can choose between three different girls as the heroine, each with their own three male characters to romance. A certain song transports a boy named Sorata Suzuhara to a different era and place.
When Sorata regains consciousness, he finds himself standing in an unfamiliar place — an old town, awash with sepia tones. The scene is exactly like the Meiji and Taishō-era pictures he had seen in textbooks. He encounters three girls and nine young men in this world, and embarks on a journey in the skies with them and the giant Norn airship




Boys Before Friends posted on their official FB site that the drama will be on hiatus. And that's coming from lawsuit against the actors.

Kuro to Kin no Hirakanai Kagi OVA - 2 episodes - completed

Katagiri Kanade is a hikikomori or a shut in. One day she suddenly goes out of her room and in no time at all she encounters different boys/men much to the dismay of her overprotective stepbrother. 

I have seen the two episodes last year but I wasn't sure if it was already completed. This anime is ABSOLUTELY for mature viewers only!!!  See the review after the jump.



I don't know how to categorize this and I'm afraid to create a tag. Mangas can get away as smutty and otomes can just label themselves as R-18, but in animes it will be categorized as soft core porn. I checked the background of the otome game where it was based upon and I was shocked with how the Samaki brothers pales in comparison. It was nothing spectacular but it the storyline and uhm visuals will bowl you over with the shock factor. I couldn't believe that it has gone to where no other reverse harem animes has gone before. This the first in reverse harem anime history. The OVA abruptly ends and I confess I was wishing for the other bishie arcs. I want Sudou Yukio's and Chihiro Konno's! The next project of Andercen is Trick or Alice. Brace yourself girls.

Hiiro no Kakera: Totsugeki! Tonari no Ikemenzu OVA - 1 episode

The OVA shows the everyday ordinary lives of the bishies. Remember the spy classmate? So this is what she have been doing on her "investigative" time. It's very cute but also very short. This is the perfect treat to wash off the sour aftertaste of the series.

Aoki Umi no Torawarehime  ("Captive Princess of the Blue Sea") by Yuki Ayumura 2 volumes - completed

Princess Matsurika was abducted by a pirate with a purpose of using her as a sacrifice. I first saw a wallpaper of this on Otome Comic High and I was drawn to it. But I dismissed it as non-reverse harem. (If anyone was able to save all the wallpapers there, please, please send me the links!) The story is sweet mixed with action. But I felt it was lacking. I'm not sure if it needed more romance or more feelings or more action. But I like the fact that the main guy surprised me with being out-of-character at times. The rest of the crew and even the villain are also all beautifully drawn so I kind of wanted more interaction from them too. But alas it all ends in just two volumes.

Days of the Divine by Circle Pegasi

Biku is the shrine maiden for an angry god who's covered the village in mist. The mist takes away the memories of the people and a lot of people have already fallen victims to it. 

I know there's tons of in-depth otome blogs out there. Please indulge me with my attempt of a short review. This is a free otome on Android and Ios. Yes, a full version not just some teasers to let you buy the game. There's also a Windows, Mac and Linux versions which you can download from the official website. This is the first time that I finished all the character routes. The only otome that I've I finished is Yo Jin Bo but I only played just one character ending. It's interesting to see all the side of the stories from different point of views and you will see the larger picture once you have seen all the endings. My first try ended with a bad ending right away. I tried to get Senrei first, then Maru and last, Liufan. I was bent on getting Senrei first, but among the three I enjoyed Maru's route. The other two was serious. For something that's free, it's good. Decent storyline, beautiful art and right choice of scoring.

I like how they incorporate the birth flowers and stones with the character's interests. I also actually use the wallpapers that I post for the blog on our computer and my son just told me that the poem from Aquarius doesn't make any sense. Haha~
