Webtoon Review: My Dear Cold Blooded King

My Dear Cold-Blooded King by lifelight - 110 episodes- ongoing 

Kihara Mei is a peasant with a strong sense of justice. Her heroics caught the eye of the mysterious but dangerous Blood King. Nothing is what it seems inside the palace.


It has mature themes for 18+ only and with a trigger. This was a recommendation from my sister-in-law. She's the only person irl (excluding my family) who understands reverse harem as she is a fan too of Fushigi Yugi and Yona of the Dawn. She first recommended this to me in 2017 and again last year. As usual, I procrastinated and when I finally picked it up, I read it all in one night! It might have been a good thing that it took me years since it's so damn hard to wait now for a weekly chapter/episode but now I'm looking forward to literally waking up every Sunday morning (my timezone) to a new episode from MDCBK.

It is four flowers level with three guys but it really is about the two main guys. For the first time ever...in my whole existence...I feel so confused with who among the two is the end game. The creator successfully built up the two guys on equal footing. You will never know who she's really going to end up with and with each bump and nudge, my fickle heart is easily swayed. But the ONE is evident now and if switch to the other guy again I will now be pissed. My heart won't be able to take it anymore.  

Meanwhile, the villain is...well evil but also good looking and with a good backstory. I'm thankful it was not pursued or I might fall for him too.  The heroine being naked is such a cliche and in reverse harem western fiction/books, the guys always have a good reason why they find the FMC in her birthday suit. But I hate to admit that I like this overused cliche especially if the guy is geeky or really a gentleman. I guess I look forward to getting the reaction from these type of guys. Haha But the opposite happened here in MDCBK...okay I'm not going to elaborate further....

King incognito is another cliche but also done with a twist. In fact, there are too many plot twists reminiscent of soap operas that I think my mind will blow up if I try to super analyze it. So I just let it be. The thing that really draws me in is Kihara Mei's strong character and her chemistry with the two guys. The only thing I'm not happy with are the elements leading to make the other guy have a change of heart. I mean it felt so forced and out of character. It feels unfair after building up both guys equally then only to break the other guy.

I don't know how to describe the art but I love it. It's like a mixture of harsh masculinity and delicate femininity.  You can scroll the webtoon and the transition of the background art is so pretty. There's background music to some of the episodes too. I also enjoy reading top comments of the readers for every end of a episode and as well as blurbs from the artist. This is my first webtoon. I thought it was Korean but after I finished reading, I found out it was actually by an American artist. I found other reverse harem webtoons but I have not tried one yet after MDCBK. Oh yeah, you can also read it for free! You can purchase 4 episodes for fast pass.

The anime adaptation of A3! (Act! Addict! Actors!) smartphone game will be split into two cours. "Season Spring & Summer" which will run from January to March 2020 while  "Season Autumn & Winter" will run from July to September 2020. The player takes the role of the producer who is responsible for the four male actor groups, each themed after as season: Spring and Summer Troupes (comedies), Fall Troupe (action-packed plays) and Winter Troupe (emotional dramas).

Synopsis: In Tokyo, there is a place called Velude Way. It is a district notorious for its performers and theatrical groups. Izumi Tachibana, who was previously a stage actress, arrives with a letter that reads, "Full of debt! Zero customers! Only one actor!" It describes the current state of the once-popular theater group Mankai Company. Her task is to rebuild the company to its former glory as the new owner and chief director.

Meanwhile, Lee Soo's first love is Gae-Ddong (Kong Seung-Yeon). He loved her before he took the throne. King Lee Soo asks the Flower Crew to make Gae-Ddong a noble woman.

Another day...another misses... This is getting a habit now to just wait for the misses to hit the magic three so I can just dump mini-reviews in one go.


Phantom in the Twilight-12 episodes- a collaboration between Japan and China

Baileu Ton and her friend Mu Shinyao moves to London. They witnessed a supernatural creature which leads Ton to Cafe Forbidden with handsome employees. Turns out, she has ties with the cafe's origins and its inhabitants.


It was watchable since it's not your usual reverse harem repertoire but as it near its end, I lost interest. Story-wise it had potential but it was lacking. I think it was trying to appeal both shoujo and shonen markets and failed. You can either go full shoujo or full shonen and not try to meet in the middle. Think Code: Breaker. 

No favorite bishonen but Wayne looks interesting with his 'memories'. The other two are hinting interests but not really full-blown. And well, of course, it's a dead giveaway that Vlad is the main guy. They had a teeny-weeny moment when they all try to express their feelings for her. It has all the ingredients for reverse harem except for the romance which needs more pushing. I will add this under Three Flowers Level (see levels of reverse harem).  It was also hinting a second season but sadly no thanks. Not that I think it would.


Haru Matsu Bokura movie (Waiting for Spring) - Japanese film based on manga by Anashin

Mitsuki Haruno is a timid girl and does not have any friends in school. But basketball holds a special place in her heart. It was a way for her to make friends before and then now...

I googled the manga before that there's a third guy liking her. Kill me if I'm wrong. But the movie is a love triangle only or two flowers. I don't mind that it was not a reverse harem but I found it boring that I'm at loss for words. Nothing really stood out for me.

I have not read the manga but I can see the appeal of the story in manga format. It's better perhaps 1if was animated. Some adaptations lose the appeal when it becomes a drama. You lose the art and the characters. But the trend now for shoujo mangas are mostly to drama adaptations and most shojo anime adaptations we are getting now are from otome games. Not that I'm complaining but I wish for more manga to anime.

Special mention to Tao Tsuchiya who was also in reverse harem dramas: 'Ani ni Aisaresugite Komattemasu' and 'Ouran High School Host Club', Yosuke Sugino of 'Aisaresugite Komattemasu'  and 'Good Morning Call' and Yu Inaba of upcoming, 'Doubt Usotsuki Otoko wa Dare?'


She's Gotta Have It Season 2 - 9 episodes

After her fame for 'My Name Isn't..', Nola is pursuing other art forms and looking for new inspiration. 

The first season ended ambiguously with her relationship status with the three men. In the sophomore series, Nola is no longer in a polyamorous relationship and is happily dating Opal. They are living their own lives now but it goes in full circle when they all meet again in the ending. But they all affected her growth as a person. She lives with her mistake with Jamie, Greer supports her with her new craft and among the three she has a deeper relationship with Mars...which is friendship. Her trip with him in Puerto Rico would make an impact on Nola. 

What I like about Nola is that she's deeply-flawed yet she still struggles to do what is right. In the end, she rises above her personal pain, experiences, and learnings into something bigger than her.  You don't have to agree with her but this is how she wants to use her voice unapologetically.

The season is another visual and musical treat. I just think the nudity in the first few episodes needs to tone down a bit? Netflix has also canceled the series which I think is timely as the ending was thought-provoking and a powerful way to close the story of Nola.

Uta no Prince-Sama The Movie: Maji: LOVE Kingdom has earned 1,609,000,000 yen from 1,026,926 tickets as of August 26. It reached 1 million tickets by August 23 and 1 billion yen gross by August 26. To commemorate the anime character designer Maki Fujika has released an illustration. The film has become the eight top-grossing animation film for the year so far. I found a reverse harem looking drama... again! It's a Chinese drama, My Vampire Boyfriend (2016). Warning, the reviews aren't good. I will officially create a tag for this now. I also add these dramas I found under Upcoming/Watchlist etc  


And another one, Rental no Koi (2017). I'm just basing this from the My Drama List synopsis:

Anime Review: Uta no Prince Sama Maji Love ~Legend Star~

Uta no Prince Sama Maji Love ~Legend Star~ (Season 4) 13 episodes

The show picks up right where the last season ends off. But the winning group is unhappy with the result and another contest will be held again to decide once and for all of whose group will perform for the Triple S. While preparing for the contest, each Starish and Heavens members pairs up for a song composed by Nanami.


It's been forever since I finished season three. Uta no Prince Sama Maji Love ~Legend Star~ is in the bottom of my watchlist but after watching the trailers of Uta no Prince Sama Maji Love Kingdom and blogging several updates of the film's success, well it piqued my interest again. After swearing to hold off idol anime for a while, I picked up the last TV series from the frachise. As I read my previous reviews, I noticed a love and hate pattern. I didn't enjoy seasons 1 and 3. But I loved season 2 and....now season 4. If you're curious with my past reviews, you will see how my reviews has evolved (for the better I hope). Gomen nasai! Also, I have not played the otome game.

I appreciate Uta Pri now compared to before. The high quality of animation is so pleasing to the eyes. This is after being used to the distorted faces of the last idol anime I've watched. It was a visual treat  and most especially the bishonen which I only realized just now are so manly. I also like the contrast of the color palettes of the three groups. I have no particular favorites but I'm just relaxing here and basking in the beauty of all them bishies. And need we say more about the music? With its popularity, it makes sense that Uta Pri has the budget to get the best in all aspects of production.

Now that we're past with the pleasantries, let's get to the nitty-gritty. I've braced my expectations to a minimum. It started with the same old calling of Nanami with different nicknames and let's-feature-a -bishonen-pair-per-episode. I mean after four seasons they would run out of idol related stories to spin. Right? Uta Pri has the most number of sequels in all reverse harem anime with the same set of characters and continuous storyline finishing off in a movie. But I am fairly impressed with the story angles they created for each pair. Sure it had cheesy moments but it was very easy to finish it unlike the last anime I watched...*coughs* Phantom. And most of all, I liked how they neatly closed the character conflicts particualarly Natsuki, Masato, and Otoya.   

My confidence for reverse harem radar is zero after watching straight three flower and two flowers levels. But oh yeah it's back to full meter again after watching Uta Pri. I should be happy but I hate to say this, at this point, it's overkill for all three groups to fight over one girl. This is the part where I find it forced. Okay, the other two groups are after her musical prowess but even still wouldn't she be biased with Starish? I think Starish has the best song among the three. And they are treating her as if she's a music factory churning non-stop songs. I mean that's her job and she has the talent...

But kudos for still trying to make Nanami important from start to finish. I had this warm fuzzy feeling when they all hugged her near the end. It's like their goodbye for her. It's not yet goodbye though since there's still the movie but they have not shown her in the key visuals or trailers at all. So I wonder...No spoilers please! :) In the latest smartphone game, Shining, Nanami is not included. But one thing's for sure, I have rediscovered my love again for Uta Pri. And now I am so pumped up for the movie! Weeks after I finished I was still humming Legend Star. Yeah, I'm so late I know. LOL

Happy 12 Years Blogoversary! (And announcements!)

It seems like it was only yesterday when I started 12 days of reverse harem Christmas. And now...wow! I can say 12 years of reverse harem! Thank you for supporting the blog all through the years. If you are new to the site, welcome to Reverse Harem Garden! 


This year, I have made a lot of changes and tried new stuff. I am blogging more, I am catching up on backlog and I am watching shows as they air. Yey! So what does the future holds? I have so many plans but these are my priorities at the moment: 
  • Finally post my long, overdue Top 10 anime right after I finish my backlog. I'm down to three anime! That means, Youtube videos and other content to follow.
  • If you are from the Philippines, I am planning to sell merchandise.   
  • I've started another project that will be available for all.
I have also updated Patreon again a few months back which sums up my personal life at the moment. I was expecting to go back to work again after taking a pause with life (my brother passed away in January) but we found out in May that my 3-year-old son has autism. It's critical that I stay at home to focus on his developmental needs. 

Reverse Harem Garden is first and foremost a hobby and my passion so I have always been shy to monetize and or share my personal life. But since I have the opportunity to stay at home now, I'm going to go all out and give my best!

Sulli of To The Beautiful You kdrama (based on Hana Kimi) passed away at age 25. She was found dead in her home by her manager yesterday, October 14. More information on Straitstimes. Sulli debuted with girl band f(x) in 2009, she left the group in 2014 to focus on acting. She was victim of cyberbullying and addressed it in the show, Night of Hate Comments. Synopsis: The story centers on five male high school students, Tokio Furuta, Shigekazu Ashida, Kotaro Tojima, Aki Sahashi, and Shun Gotouda. They are all good-looking boys, but have problems in their personalities. One day, they are gathered by Sakiko Horinomiya, their school's famous girl from a rich family. She wants them to participate in the "Motemen Koushien" tournament to repay the debts that have been owed from various circumstances with the prize money.
