Hakuouki 2021 (3 episodes)
The story is set before the Tanabata Festival. There are rogues impersonating as Shinsengumi and the furies have escaped.
The OVA was released earlier than the Hakuouki live action drama (see First Impression for the drama) and I'm on Hakuouki overload now with my intertwined feelings from both drama and anime. The story happened before they found out that Chizuru has a twin. It feels different to watch this again. Before I was only after the romance aspect but now I feel bad for Hijikata's dilemma of making furies and taking responsibility for it. And Chizuru's loyalty to them is really something. Every new sequel or OVA, my realizations for the characters change. Like I've forgotten how intense Okita can be or that Saito has a softer side. The trio of Shinpachi, Sano, and Heisuke is such a riot. And I don't normally follow any seiyuu's project as I don't have an ear for it but one thing I'm certain of is that I love Kazama's seiyuu--Kenjiro Tsuda. He's the only one I can confidently recognize in other anime. Overall, it's another bittersweet story.
My Next Life as a Villainess X OAD
This OAD is meant to link with the fifth episode of the anime sequel. Their younger versions are back! Why did I ever think that we'll never see them again? We see all their POVs when they all meet Katarina well except for Maria's. Their stories are all so cute and heartwarming but Geordo is my favorite because he's painfully aware that Katarina doesn't have any interest in the engagement at all. Nicol's is my least favorite. Maybe because his story is the last or maybe it's his personality or the way it is written. What's yours?
Do we need more anime ova reviews in the future? Yes? No? Maybe? Let me know in the comments.
