The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent (Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou desu) Story by: Yuka Tachibana Art by: Yasuyuki Syuri
The kingdom is overrun by monsters that they had to resort to a saint summoning ritual. The summoning is successful however they brought in two young ladies instead of one. And one of them is Sei, a twenty-something workaholic who is cast in the sides so she's left on her own devices in this new world. Disclaimer: A digital review copy of this book was provided by the publisher.
Sei is brought from modern-day Japan to a medieval world that resembles a game. They have MPS, potions, and quests to level up their stats. But it's not a game or an otome game. The plot is simple but I'm sucked in by the fantasy elements. I was trying not to finish it right away since it's short but I tend to read fast when I'm enjoying the story. The story is a perfect mix of everyday seemingly ordinary life and extraordinary spins from Sei. Although I'm not a big fan of being conveniently powerful that is actually the one thing that making it interesting. It works because of Sei's other qualities. Her sense of self-awareness, being a completionist, and her resourcefulness. Her character will not grow if not for those. Who can totally relate to her completionist nature?
When the news broke out that this will be animated, I saw many people calling it a reverse harem. It has the makings of a reverse harem all right but it's not there yet. (see
Levels of Reverse Harem) She lives in an all-male institute...but not that's not it. All the key characters introduced so far are all bishonen. Just look at the beautiful art! Except for one lady friend. There's only one guy pursuing her at the moment and with occasional flirting/awkward moment with the others. But you can see the potential.
I was doubtful at first of the romance aspect since the storytelling is brisk. The first bishonen is only named after a day or two like an afterthought. But before you know it it turns to shojo-ish halfway through. The way it is written is geared more into the heroine so I can't seem to relate with the other characters. That's why no favorite bishie yet. There's another girl mentioned who seem to be 'collecting' guys hmmm sounds like a reverse harem. LOL Or could she be the villainess or maybe the other saint?
The ending did not come as a surprise but I can already see it looking cool and powerful in anime. Aside from the anime, there will be a manga too to appreciate more of the characters and the art. Now I'm equally excited about the upcoming volumes and anime. You can check out the book through the affiliate link below. Let me know your thoughts.
